Each year, Bos Seafood is committed to promoting sustainable business practices because as our business continues to grow, so does our responsibility to society.
Our ambition is to eventually become one of the leading fish suppliers in the field of sustainable business and sustainable fish. Dutch fresh fish is an important food source not only in the Netherlands, but throughout the world. The fish industry is a healthy sector and generates about 3.6 billion euros annually. More than 14,000 people work in this industry.
Unfortunately, a number of fish stocks in the North Sea have declined drastically due to overfishing on the one hand, but also due to the decrease of phosphates in the water, which has drastically reduced the so-called plankton (fish food), so that the fish have less food and grow less quickly.
As a result, Bos Seafood considers it essential to work and think about the future within the fish sector. Bos Seafood has a number of guiding principles in its corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy. The agenda focuses on three strategic themes: climate and nature, sustainable supply chain management and social aspects.
Working for clarity and cooperation in the chain.
Helping to conserve natural resources and the ecosystem.
Treating employees, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders responsibly over the long term and focused on mutual success.
Taking into account the interests of society.
To collaborate collectively on appropriate resolution of overfishing, unwanted bycatch and optimal management of the catch basin.
Bos Seafood puts food safety at the center of the chain and it guarantees buyers good quality sustainable fish.
The more unnatural added substances, the less real energy the product contains. Fresh produce, without additives is almost always healthier and contains the right nutrients. For example, choose fresh sustainable fish instead of frozen breaded fish or fresh organic vegetables instead of preserved vegetables.
Natural products are healthy. So no pesticides, aromas, flavors, colors or preservatives. Scientific research has shown that natural or organic products often contain more vitamins and nutrients. So they contribute to a healthy lifestyle and sustainable fish.
It is not only consumers who are increasingly choosing natural or organic products. Professional chefs have also discovered the power of the pure taste of nature. They agree; nothing can match the pure taste, powerful bite and beautiful appearance of honest ingredients.
Food is all about taste. And the best taste comes when fish are given the chance to develop in a natural environment. Without concentrate feed, fertilizers or chemicals. “Wild” fish grow up in their own environment, at their own pace and with everything the sea, ocean or inland water has to offer. So choose honest, real and pure taste. Put wild fish on your menu from the green fish list.
Some examples of responsible wild fish, which are on the so-called. Green fish list are: alaskan pollock, wild salmon, herring, mackerel, Dutch shrimp, hake, creels, lobster, catfish, hanging culture mussels,Pacific halibut, trout, crayfish and sardines.
With fish from the green fish list, you take a step in protecting the environment. If all Dutch people ate no meat for 1 day a week, we would all save as much as if we took 1 million cars off the road. One day meatless and this cabinet’s 2010 reduction will be more than met. Fish from the green fish list can of course be a good substitute for meat here. All Dutch people…. that would be nice… Still, we remain realistic. Every step is one, how about starting now? Sustainable fish is tasty too!
Animal friendly and responsible
Fish caught in the “wild” is actually even better than organic. Organic is a word legally protected by the government. So any company that delivers organic products is strictly controlled.
This is very important to fish supplier Bos Seafood. Important issues with organic, are for example sufficient environmental space, good food and fresh air. However, the “wild” fish grows up in its natural environment with natural food and has more than enough living space; namely the sea or ocean.
So it can’t really get any better.
Farmed fish is also responsible
Good standards and values are also pursued in fish farming or aquaculture. Here the subjects of good food, adequate exercise space and the use of as few biotics as possible are the order of the day. The advantage of farmed fish is a continuous supply, fairly stable price level, almost always in stock with similar quality. But surely the most important advantage is that the natural fish stocks are spared by the use of farmed fish.
